Many employers are cutting heads to keep afloat. Cost cutting is the immediate short term remedy to sustain a business – and unfortunately, in a service-driven world, people generally represent the biggest cost in a company. But a quick browse through BIG TIME Recruitment tells another side of the story.
Entelligence’s global recruitment website, www.bigtimerecruitment.com, shows an interesting trend since the economic crisis. The following sectors represent the 3 biggest area of recruitment, making up approximately 90% of all jobs currently being advertised worldwide:
- Work from home – 40%
- Sales – 30%
- Marketing – 20%
The sudden increase in work from home jobs represent companies’ attempts to reduce operational overheads, whilst keeping the resources they need. All three of the sectors above are sales/marketing related. They are all jobs that lead to revenue INCREASE – this represents a more positive approach towards dealing with the economic crunch. Yes, some companies have no choice but to curb costs, but many companies can actually take a more agressive stance & look to push sales – depending on which sector their company operates in.
We are actually seeing an increase in digital ad spend, since it represents the best Return On Investment of all advertising channels available. A colleague mentioned to me that Walmart has decreased all ad expenditure for the next quarter, except digital ad expenditure – which has actually been increased.
Spending more in times of crisis takes courage – but very often it is the best thing to do. If business has slumped every company needs to find new markets, adapt, and sell more aggressively than ever.

Entelligence’s online recruitment solution, BIG TIME Recruitment, recently went global. Read about the challenges of driving a South African business into the International market place.
Entelligence launched BIG TIME Recruitment aroudn July ‘08. The online recruitment website offers advertisers the ability to instantly advertise new jobs & gain immediate exposure. The website has enjoyed a high amount of success & in October we introduced free job advertising to advertisers in order to help gain critical mass in terms of the number of jobs advertised. BIG TIME Recruitment currently has 235 active advertisers & 4,000 job seekers.
In our bid for world domination, we had to integrate with an international payment gateway so that we could process $ – Rands tend to scare off international customers. Note to the Reserve Bank of South Africa: if you want SA businesses to be internationally competitive ECommerce websites, this legislation preventing local companies from receiving foreign currency needs to be addressed!
Anyhow, we chose a provider in the UK that we had used before. It wasn’t easy but we are finally active with international. payments. One of the positives that we can take away from the experience is that South Africa’s online payment industry meets & in many instances exceeds international standards of service! I have heard a rumour that you can get a company, $-based payment gateway, & bank account setup in one package by the State Bank of Mauritius – and Mauritius also happens to be a tax haven. I need to look into this – I left a message for them to call back 3 weeks ago but no reply yet…
Since the launch of the International pyment gateway, we are enjoying a high number of foreign advertisers coming on board – let’s see what happens….

Entelligence recently launched its online recruitment solution, BIG TIME Recruitment.
BIG TIME Recruitment has been operating successfully for 2 months now in South Africa & is poised for launch in the US & UK markets within the next few days.
What does BIG TIME do differently?
Job Seekers who register and upload their CV’s will always have their privacy respected. A job seeker must actively opt to apply for a specific job that interests them. Employers cannot search our database of CV’s.
Advertisers who place a job on BIG TIME Recruitment benefit by having their ad instantly inserted into Google’s AdWords API system. As an example, we are currently running an ad for a customer seeking a .Net developer. If you were to Google “.net jobs” within South Africa you would see a BIG TIME Recruitment ad appear. Clicking on this ad will direct users straight to the job profile, from where they can apply for the job.
How does this benefit Employers?
Employers can advertise jobs on Google without specific Google Adwords knowledge. Furthermore, we have found that the applicants are a very close match to the job profile criteria. Since users who searched for keywords relevant to the job on Google end up applying, there is a very good fit. Entelligence has found in the past that having 1000’s of CV’s means nothing – we want the one CV that matches the job criteria well.
International Roll Out
BIG TIME Recruitment is launching in the US & UK within the next week. We will also offer advertisers the option of displaying their ads in extended regions (not only the country where the job is being advertised).
